Lookout Inc. Releases Mobile Security App for Android

October 10, 2012

Lookout Inc has long been one of the most trusted names in mobile phone security in the world. Now the company is taking the next step with the release of their Lookout mobile app for the Android (News - Alert) OS.

This new Lookout Mobile Security suite for Android has a new look and feel that gives the app a sleeker operation. The company hopes that the sleekness of this new app will make people take their mobile security a little more seriously and will use this application just a little bit more.

Mobile phone security has been a growing problem as more of the world’s population has turned to smartphones and other mobile devices to do the brunt of their web surfing and shopping. The more people use mobile devices for specialized tasks, the more people become a target for people looking to exploit weaknesses in their security settings. The Lookout application works to protect people and their mobile devices against malware as well as help someone find a phone that has been lost or stolen.

“The mobile landscape has changed dramatically since we launched in 2007. Everything has evolved, from what we do on our phones to the threats that face them,” said Kevin Mahaffey, co-founder and CTO of Lookout in a recent statement.

Among the features that the Lookout app offers in the new Android application is the ability to see your activity at a glance. The activity feed will show you all the ways in which Lookout is keeping your phone safe, at a glance. On the dashboard, you can easily be alerted to programs that have been downloaded, data backups and any security or threat notifications.

The application also has a somewhat revolutionary way of finding your phone should you lose it or if its stolen. While most location services depend on your phone having an active battery, Lookout knows that sooner or later that battery is going to run out of juice. This security application actually logs the last known location when the battery is getting low, making it that much simpler to know where to start your search should the phone be dead.
