What to Look for in Mobile Security Management

Mobile devices aren’t new, but those available today can do much more than the typical handheld device just a few years ago. Today, these mobile devices are basically small computers, phones and entertainment devices are still causing some headaches for companies that aren’t sure what mobile device management system to use or if they’re getting the right amount of mobile security management to keep their company data safe and secure.

Mobile security management software helps monitor and manage the various applications needed to keep the data secure. The problem is, mobile device management and mobile security management solutions come in many flavors and it can be difficult to know which one suits the company’s tastes.

Most of the solutions are built to protect data from getting out to where it’s not meant to go. But decisions need to be made quickly as companies of all sizes need to have a solution implemented sooner than later. A recent Business Insider report highlights the challenges companies face when trying to tackle this seemingly new problem.

There is a revolution going on in the workplace, and it’s called BYOD (bring your own device). This is driving productivity as employees now work from any location, not just their office or cubicle. But it’s because of the BYOD revolution that companies need to implement some type of mobile security management. Whether it’s Android (News - Alert)- or iOS-friendly or both, mobile security management can protect either.

There are nearly 100 providers of mobile security management solutions. Reading reviews is one method in discovering where the weaknesses and strengths lie within each provider. Are they quick in delivering patches for new operating systems? How quickly can they develop updates that address bugs?

Mobile security management within the mobile device management solution deserves extra attention. After all, it’s the leaked data or employee mishap that isn’t caught in mobile security management that leads to embarrassing attention.

Some vendors are digging deeper into the enterprise mobile software and offering platforms that can give better support to various enterprise needs. The policies and configurations established by companies can be better implemented through mobile security management solutions. It’s possible that because of the BYOD revolution, there are more mobile devices running in some companies that there are traditional desktop personal computers.

A desktop is hard to lose, but mobile devices come up missing on a regular basis. Administrators and users need to be able to wipe these devices remotely, and a quality mobile security management solution will offer this tool.

IT staff need a mobile security management solution that allows them to set policies and application restrictions. Companies should seek out easy to deploy and feature-rich mobile device management solution with robust mobile security management.
