AirWatch's Windows Phone 8 Device and App Management Features Provide Complete Enterprise Mobility Management
November 05, 2012
Mobile Device Management (MDM), is the ability to secure, monitor, manage and support mobile devices, usually involving remote distribution of applications, data and configuration settings for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. Today, with mobile devices and applications flooding the market creating the consumerization of IT, enterprises must be able to support the latest mobile devices.
By optimizing the functionality of mobile devices while controlling and protecting the data and configuration settings for all devices in a network, enterprise support costs and business security risks are drastically lowered.
Recently, AirWatch (News - Alert), a provider of mobile security, MDM, Mobile Application Management (MAM), Mobile Content Management (MCM), Mobile E-mail Management (MEM) and BYOD management, has introduced device and application management support for Windows Phone 8 devices. The company provides complete mobility management solutions for Windows Phone 8 enterprise deployments and supports device and application management functionality.
“With the introduction of the Nokia (News - Alert) Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820, partnerships with important enterprise players like AirWatch will continue to make Nokia Lumia the most obvious choice for business.” said David Mason, global head of Business Mobility, Nokia, in a statement.
Nokia Lumia has created innovative experiences such as wireless charging to ensure that your phone is always charged, while Windows Phone (News - Alert) 8 gives IT administrators confidence that the company’s data is secure through several functionalities.
“AirWatch provides the console for IT administrators to view their entire fleet of Lumia or other WP8 devices, from GPS location to roaming status to capturing device information for each specific device,” Victor Cooper, Global Public Relations, AirWatch told TMCnet. “With AirWatch's intuitive console, detailed analytics and reporting mechanisms, IT administrators can also be confident that each Lumia device is compliant.”
AirWatch Device Management for Windows Phone 8 requires device encryption and disable SD card, configure passcode policies, install corporate and user certificates, as well as configure Exchange ActiveSync profiles for multiple accounts. Additionally, the features capture device information, gain carrier network visibility, send Microsoft (News - Alert) Push Notification Service (MPNS) messages and perform enterprise or device wipe.
Additionally, AirWatch Application Management for Windows Phone 8 installs and updates internal apps, views installed internal apps and versions, recommends public apps and even deploys enterprise Company Hubs.
John Marshall (News - Alert), CEO, AirWatch, said, “Instant Windows Phone 8 device support is yet another example of AirWatch being ahead of the curve and enabling enterprises to secure corporate devices and support BYOD initiatives.”
