Marble Security Granted New US 'Enterprise Device Policy Management' Patent

Cloud-based mobile security service provider Marble Security has obtained a new patent that would make remote, cloud-based management of mobile devices a reality, but without the risks that could compromise the devices.

The patent entitled, “Enterprise Device Policy Management,” was filed by the company CTO, Dave Jevans back in 2009. It was officially issued on January 15, 2013, enabling the enterprises to use third party cloud service to manage the security of employees’ devices.

Thanks to the U.S. Patent No. 8,356,105, enterprises can now seek the assistance of third party cloud service to manage the policies and security of portable, data-storing devices. In addition to the enterprises, the financial institutions, healthcare providers and government agencies are also expected to benefit from the new method of device management powered by the “Enterprise Device Policy Management” patent.

Cloud services are vulnerable to several types of security threats including bug attacks, hacking, attacks from malicious insiders and also hostile government intervention. So, this patented technology ensures that only the IT administrators of an enterprise can access, modify or unlock a mobile device, even if the cloud service is compromised.

“Employees are bringing their own devices to work, and security must be ensured. In the past, companies had to install costly and complex Mobile Device Management (MDM) software in their data centers to securely manage iPhones, iPads, Android (News - Alert) devices and PC and Mac laptops. Marble Security's newly issued patent allows a cloud service to securely provide management capabilities to remote devices in such a way that only an enterprise's administrators can unlock them. It also ensures that the cloud provider cannot introduce any risks to the device or the data, even if the cloud service is compromised,” Jevans explained in a statement.

Recently SC Magazine has named Marble Security a Finalist for the security industry's prestigious awards - the 2013 Reader Trust Awards.  Marble Access is a Finalist in the Best Mobile/Portable Device Security category.
